The peafowl (males are peacocks, females are peahens, young ones are peachicks!) has served as a symbol of beauty, spirituality, balance, and guidance in a variety of cultures from Christianity, to Greco-Roman, to Hinduism.  These birds are native to India but are now found around the globe. A little-known fact: “The Indian peafowl is the national bird of India and is protected in that country. To Hindus, the peafowl is a sacred bird; the spots on the peacock’s train symbolize the eyes of the gods.” ~San Diego Zoo
