I cleaned and rearranged the studio while waiting to see what hurricane Florence was going to do. While doing this I found this piece of art. It is in need of repair because the stones became unglued in my boiling hot car, so I had to carefully break the glass, sand it down and replace the stones.
I made this piece years ago while working out my thoughts on contemporary education as I witnessed my sons being funneled into standardized boxes (that is my son’s hand screen printed on glass). Really, it was an important time for me because I was redefining my teaching to be more inclusive of all voices, methods, and thinking. I now run a student-led curriculum and will never turn back. While my students work independently on their passion projects, I mentor and guide. For all these reasons it will be kept in my personal collection once repaired.
