Archive: The Beginning 2005-12

During these years, I was finding my voice as an artist through graduate school at Goddard College in Vermont and shortly beyond graduation.  At the time my ideas centered around deeply personal experiences with children as a mother and educator.  My intention was to encourage the viewer to see children as thoughtful, intelligent humans vs. a number on a standardized test. Education is a beast of an issue with still so far to go for improvement.  It is why I went back to teaching to be part of the change I wanted to see happen. This time opened up a path of experimentation in my art with found objects incorporated with my formal art training in drawing, painting, and printmaking.  I learned about photo transfer prints, which completely changed my work allowing me to add my photographs onto any surface.  This was a pivotal time which still informs my work today.
